Indian Jesuits: over 600 attacks on Christians, other minorities since May
October 10, 2014
Since May, there have been more than 600 attacks on Christians and other religious minorities in India, according to Jesuits in Social Action (JESA).
JESA called for “an end to the orchestrated campaign, motivated by hatred and violence against religious minorities, which has a negative impact on the social harmony in many towns and village,” the Fides news agency reported.
“The first 100 days of the new government [of Prime Minister Narendra Modi] have seen a crescendo of hate speeches against Muslims and Christians,” JESA added. “Their identity is mocked, their citizenship questioned, their faith ridiculed.”
