Papal envoys to Middle East briefed on Vatican policies

During their 2nd day of meetings in Rome, the Vatican diplomatic representatives to countries in the Middle East heard a briefing from the Vatican’s chief foreign-policy official.
Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, the Secretary for Relations with States, outlined the overall situation in the Middle East and explained the Vatican’s diplomatic priorities, emphasizing the need for negotiated solutions to the region’s problems.
The archbishop stressed the threat of terrorism and underlined the need for religious leaders to reject violence. He said that the Vatican will always insist on upholding the rights of Christian minorities in predominantly Islamic countries.
Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, the apostolic nuncio to Israel and the Palestinian territories, also addressed the meeting on October 3, providing the latest perspective on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and the challenges facing Christians in the Holy Land.
