Indonesia: Muslim protests force cancellation of LGBT seminar at Catholic university

September 19, 2014

A Catholic university in Indonesia has cancelled a seminar on homosexuality because of intense opposition from Muslim activists, the AsiaNews service reports.

The psychology department of the Sanata Dharma University in Yogyakarta had scheduled a conference on homosexual, lesbian, and transgender identity. But the seminar was cancelled after Islamic activists threatened to disrupt the sessions, saying that a discussion of deviant sexuality “dishonored Islam.”

Does a conference on a very real situation mean assent? Worry more that these Islamists can dictate what a Catholic university discusses.

At least they have some brains that too many catholic schools seem to lack. Supporting speakers and events of this nature tells your audience that you have agreement with it.

The rise of Islam, just may be allowed by God to punish His people for abandoning Him. He certainly allowed the chosen people in the Old Testament to be taken over by their enemies and even took credit for it. Perhaps we will see the same kind of punishment for our transgressions against God and His laws. "If you all not serve Me, then you will serve other gods."

Dare I say it? Thank God for Muslim activists on this nominal Catholic university campus.

...so why is it such a SAD day? The right thing was done and hopefully we (Catholics) can learn a lesson. Where is your hope? Hopefully, this begins the road to recovery of our Catholic identity and courage in Christ Jesus.

Please send these Muslims to the Archdiocese of NY to speak with Cardinal Dolan

This is one time I would have to agree with the Islamic "extremists". Maybe we need Catholic "extremists".

A sad day indeed when a religion like Mohammedanism has to give Catholics a (needed) lesson in morality and common sense anywhere in the world.
