Sistine Chapel Choir to perform in East Asia

September 17, 2014

The Sistine Chapel Choir will perform at concerts in Macau, Hong Kong, and Taiwan between September 19 and September 23, according to an announcement from the Holy See Press Office.

Taiwan is an independent nation, while Macau and Hong Kong are special administrative regions of mainland China. The Holy See unsuccessfully sought to have the choir perform in Communist-governed mainland China, AsiaNews reported.

The Holy See Press Office also announced that “with the authorization of the Cardinal Secretary of State,” the choir would sing at Sunday Mass in Hong Kong’s cathedral.
