More than 85,000 people have signed an online petition urging Oklahoma City officials to halt the performance of a Black Mass.
The organizers of the Satanic event, which is scheduled to take place in the city’s Civic Center, have said that they will not use a consecrated host, and that their ceremony will eliminate some other obscene rituals that might violate local laws. The organizers had originally claimed to have possession of a consecrated host, but returned it to the Oklahoma City archdiocese when threatened with a lawsuit.
Nevertheless, the online petition notes, “A black mass is intended as an attack on another religious group, namely Catholics.”
