Christian families fear daughters’ forced conversion, flee Punjab

September 12, 2014

Fearful of the forced conversion of their daughters, parents in “many Christian families” are taking their children out of the southern portion of the Pakistani province of Punjab, according to the Fides news services.

According to a report from the justice and peace commission of the Archdiocese of Lahore, the parents of a 13-year-old girl were told that their daughter had converted to Islam while in school, where she had been required to recite verses from the Qur’an, and that as a result would have to be raised by Muslim parents. The parents then took their daughter and fled to another area of the country.
