Indian bishops make emergency plea for victims of flooding in Kashmir

September 11, 2014

The president of India’s episcopal conference has issued an appeal for help for victims of flooding in the Kashmir region.

Cardinal Baselios Cleemis reported “deep anguish over the loss of lives and properties” after heavy rains caused flooding in the Kashmir valley. At least 200 people were killed by the floods, and 60 million driven from their homes as the waters inundated hundreds of villages. A roughly equal number of casualties have been reported in Pakistan.
