Tunisian president meets with Pontiff

September 11, 2014

Pope Francis met on September 11 with President Mohamed Moncef Marzouki of Tunisia, for a conversation that focused on peacekeeping, inter-religious dialogue, and freedom of conscience.

A brief Vatican statement released after the meeting indicated that the conversation had also touched on the work of the Catholic Church for the poor of Tunisia, and the prospects for the future of the Mediterranean region.
