Pope meets leaders from Panama, Andorra

September 05, 2014

Pope Francis met on September 5 with President Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez of Panama and with Antoni Marti i Petit, the head of government of Andorra, in separate private audiences.

The Pope’s meeting with the Panamanian leader focused on that country’s social problems, and especially the difficulties facing the young and the poor, according to a brief Vatican statement released after the session. The conversation also included regional issues touching the Americas.

In his meeting with the government leader from the principality of Andorra, the Pope spoke of the traditional strong relations between the European principality and the Holy See.
