German bishops on Middle East: nations must act to prevent genocide

August 28, 2014

In a statement on the Middle East, the German Bishops’ Conference said that nations are obligated to act to prevent genocide.

Deploring the persecution of Christians, the bishops said in their August 25 statement that it was “especially disturbing” that hundreds of Muslims in Europe have joined the ranks of the Islamic State of Syria and the Levant. “The overwhelming majority of peace-loving Muslims must face the question of which factors underlie the worrying developments in their own religious community.”

The bishops also called for prayer and humanitarian assistance for the victims of Middle East violence.
