St. Louis prelate issues letter on Ferguson violence

August 19, 2014

Archbishop Robert Carlson of St. Louis has issued a letter on the violence in Ferguson, Missouri, following the shooting of Michael Brown.

The prelate, who said he “personally visited Ferguson and Michael Brown’s memorial to offer my prayers for everyone affected by this tragedy,” will offer a special Mass for peace and justice in the cathedral basilica. A collection will be taken to benefit parishes and food pantries offering “assistance to those who have been affected by the looting and destruction of property.”

Archbishop Carlson called upon all priests to offer Masses for peace and urged “our Catholic schools to begin a daily rosary for peace.”
