Leading Russian Orthodox official: world on brink of World War III

A leading official of the Russian Orthodox Church has told a Russian newspaper that he believes the world is on the brink of a third world war.

“The current situation is increasingly reminiscent of that in the run-up to the First World War,” said Metropolitan Hilarion, the chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Department of External Church Relations, according to an Interfax news agency report.

“Various countries create and maintain, through mass media, an image of the enemy,” he added. “And that is one step away from a declaration of global war.”
