Cardinal condemns Nicaragua attack

July 23, 2014

Gunmen attacked supporters of Nicaragua’s ruling Sandinista party on July 19, killing five and wounding 24.

Cardinal Leopoldo José Brenes condemned the attack and urged Nicaraguans, whether believers or nonbelievers, to reject violence and human rights abuses.

The prelate also called upon parish priests to offer Mass for the victims and to hold a Eucharistic holy hour for peace on July 24.
