Quebec: abuse victims win class-action suit against Redemptorist order

July 16, 2014

The Quebec Superior Court has ruled that the Redemptorist order must pay between $75,000 and $150,000 to each seminarian who was a victim of clerical sexual abuse at St.-Alphonse Seminary in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Quebec.

Over 70 men allege they were abused in the decades before the seminary’s closing in 1987, according to a Montreal Gazette report. The victims were between the ages of 12 and 16 when the abuse took place.
