Overcome violence with peace, Pope tells Palestinian refugees
May 25, 2014
Concluding his brief visit to territory governed by the Palestinian Authority, Pope Francis traveled to Dheisheh Refugee Camp near Bethlehem and met with children from three refugee camps.
After a child said that the Palestinians had endured “suffering and humiliation” for 66 years, Pope Francis replied, “Never let the past determine your life. Always look forward. Work and struggle to obtain the things you want. But know one thing, that one does not vanquish violence with violence. One vanquishes violence with peace.”
