Two nuns were savagely beaten and robbed outside a church in Seremban, a Malaysian city of 550,000.
Sister Juliana Lim, 69, died, and Sister Marie-Rose Teng, 79, was seriously injured.
“This incident shocks the nation,” a leading local official told Malay Mail as he pledged to increase security near the church. “This goes to show how serious the crime situation is here in the country.”
A Malaysian priest told the Fides news agency that the “Church is shocked and worried for such aggression … According to the police, this attack may be the act of a desperate man, but there is also the possibility of aggression for religious hatred.”
