Ukrainian cardinal: moral obligation to vote in upcoming election

May 21, 2014

The retired head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church urged Catholics to vote in the May 25 presidential election.

“If one does not go to vote because one does not feel like it, then it falls into the category of sinfulness,” said Cardinal Lubomyr Husar, 81, who led the Eastern Catholic church from 2001 to 2011.

Cardinal Husar recommended that Ukrainians vote for a candidate on the basis of his professionalism, probity, and patriotism, according to the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church’s information department.
