Indian priest runs for political office
April 23, 2014
Defying the Code of Canon Law and a directive from diocesan officials, a parish priest in India is running for parliament.
Father M. P. Jesuraj, a priest of the Diocese of Palayamkottai, has opposed the construction of a Russian-sponsored nuclear power plant in his town.
“In this situation, we need political power to meet our ends,” said the priest, according to a UCA News report.
