Cardinal Parolin celebrates Mass for modern martyrs
April 16, 2014
Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State, offered Mass at the Church of Santa Maria in Trastevere on April 15 for Christians who have recently died for their faith.
“In various contexts many of our brothers and sisters remain the object of anti-Christian hatred,” he preached, according to a Vatican Radio report. “They are not being persecuted not because they are vying for worldly, political, economic or military power, but precisely because they are tenacious witnesses of another vision of life, one of abasement, service, freedom, which is based on faith.”
