An Italian man climbed out onto the dome of St. Peter’s basilica on Saturday, March 30, and unfurled a banner protesting European economic policies.
The man, identified as Marcello Di Finizio, has staged similar protests on the dome of the Vatican basilica at least twice before, in 2012 and again in 2013. He reportedly wore a disguise to avoid being recognized by Vatican security guards.
Di Finizio remained on the dome Monday, having slept for two nights on a ledge. Last May, in his last such demonstration, he climbed down voluntarily after two days.
