The Maronite Catholic Church has suggested that during his visit to the Holy Land in May, Pope Francis could use the same Cadillac that carried Pope Paul VI when he made his visit there in 1964, the AsiaNews service reports.
Jordan’s King Hussein donated the car for the use of Pope Paul during that visit, on which the Pope met with the Orthodox Patriarch Athenagoras. After the papal visit, the Cadillac was given to the Maronite patriarchate, which has preserved the car carefully, seeing it as an important reminder of a historic papal trip. The car is currently being overhauled in a shop in Lebanon, and could be ready for the May visit by Pope Francis.
