Bishop Robert Morlino of Madison, Wisconsin, has said that far from discouraging his criticism of cultural trends, Pope Francis has encouraged him to take a stronger stand against abortion and homosexuality.
Bishop Morlino, who has encountered criticism because of his strong public statements on controversial public issues, said that he has been assured that his approach is not at odds with the Pontiff’s vision for the Church. The bishop said that the Pope’s own public statements have been “outrageously misinterpreted” by the media.
