Pope Francis will travel to South Korea in August, the Vatican has announced.
Confirming an earlier report by the AsiaNews service, the Vatican said that the Holy Father will visit the Diocese of Daejeon to participate in the 6th Asian Youth Day, which will be held August 14 to 18. While there he will preside at the beatification of 124 Korean martyrs.
Pope Francis will also celebrate a Mass for peace during his trip. Cardinal Andrew Yeom Soo-jung of Seoul said that he hoped the papal visit would “bring reconciliation and peace to the Korean peninsula.”
