Vatican leads world in per-capita wine consumption?
February 25, 2014
The Vatican city-state consumes more wine per capita than any other country in the world, according to a study by the California-based Wine Institute.
The study found that wine consumption at the Vatican was nearly double that in Italy as a whole. But the accuracy of the report may be questioned. The official population of the Vatican city-state is very small, and composed entirely of adults. Perhaps more important, the only supermarket on Vatican territory sells wine—including to non-residents—at very attractive prices.
