Suspect arrested in murder of California priest
January 03, 2014
Police in California have made an arrest in connection with the New Year’s Eve murder of a Catholic priest.
Father Eric Freed died after a “violent struggle” at his rectory, police disclosed, reporting the arrest of a local man, Gary Lee Bullock, who will be charged with the killing. Surveillance cameras enabled the police to identity the suspect quickly.
A police spokesman said that the motive for the killing remains unclear. The victim was apparently not acquainted with the killer, he said, and the case appeared to involve “a crime of opportunity.”
