Ukrainian Catholic bishops join anti-government demonstrators

December 11, 2013

With Ukrainian police threatening to oust anti-government protesters from Kiev’s Independence Square, leaders of the Ukrainian Catholic Church joined the protesters for morning prayers on December 11, and the police left without incident, the Catholic News Service reports.

Police had sought to clear the square of the protesters, who had stayed through the night despite bitter cold, to protest the government’s plans to withdraw from the European community. The synod of the Byzantine-rite Ukrainian Catholic Church issued a statement deploring the police tactics and expressing “our support and solidarity” for the demonstrators.

As someone who visited the Black Sea on board a Navy cruiser, you have to understand the Russian fleet is homeported in Ukraine. Eastern Ukraine was settled by Russians after Stalin starved millions. Orange Revolution was in the West against Yanukovich who was KGB. Yuschenko was poisoned with dioxin and Yanukovich won again and then imprisoned his rival Yulia Tymoshenko. Putin is behind all this and the Orthodox Church is only his puppet in attempts to recobble an empire.
