Pope Francis will visit Jordan next year, as part of his voyage to the Holy Land, the Vatican's top foreign-policy official has revealed.
Archbishop Dominique Mamberti disclosed the plans for a Vatican visit after meeting with Jordan's foreign minister, Nasser Judeh, in Amman. His announcement was not a surprise, since there had been a wide expectation that the Pontiff would include Jordan in his travel plans. But the Vatican has not yet released any official announcement regarding plans for the trip.
Although no date has been set for the papal voyage, speculation has centered on late May 2014.
