India: police investigate tribal conversions to Christianity
December 03, 2013
At the behest of a Hindu organization, police in the southwestern Indian state of Karnataka are investigating the “forced” conversions of over 1,000 Adivasi families to Christianity, according to The Hindu and the Fides news agency.
“Adivasi” is a term that embraces various tribal groups in India.
An official of the Hindu organization asked police “to take steps to ‘protect’ the culture of the Adivasis, which had deep roots in nature and ancestor worship,” The Hindu reported.
