Cuba postpones dissidents' trials, new wave of arrests reported

November 04, 2013

Authorities in Cuba have postponed the trials of 3 human-rights activists who were arrested just before Pope Benedict XVI visited the island nation last March. No explanation was given for the postponement.

More than 1,000 people were arrested before the papal visit, as authorities moved to avert public demonstrations. Human-rights activists report that another surge in arrests of political dissidents occurred in October of this year.
