Pope repeats urgent plea for peace in Syria

September 04, 2013

Pope Francis repeated his urgent prayer for peace in Syria as he closed his regular weekly public audience on Wednesday, September 4.

Reminding his audience of the special day of fasting and prayer that he has called for September 7, the Pope renewed his invitation to all Christians “and to men and women of good will who wish to join, wherever they may be and in their own way,” in the observance. He encouraged the faithful to join him at the prayer vigil to be held in St. Peter’s Square on Saturday evening.

“Let us raise a cry for peace all over the world,” the Pope said.

In a message dedicated especially to Arabic-speaking Christians, the Pope said: “Faith is a potent force capable of making the world a more just and beautiful place.”

We must put aside our bitterness and follow our Holy Father's exhortation to pray and fast for peace.
