USCCB: pray, fast for religious freedom

July 05, 2013

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has asked Catholics to pray, fast, and abstain from meat on July 5 “for the protection of religious freedom for all people of faith.”

“In the current struggle for religious freedom, let us be mindful of the totality of Christ's love,” a USCCB flyer stated. “The freedom to embrace that expansive love, and to act in response to it, is both a right that belongs to all people and something that we must act vigilantly to protect.”

Their request received little or no publicity, this is the first time I hear of it and I do attend Mass and pay attention to the homily and announcements.
