Lithuanian bishops: Europe must return to Christian heritage
July 02, 2013
As Lithuania assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union on July 1, the nation’s bishops called for a return to the Christian heritage upon which Europe is based.
Recalling the martyrs under Communist rule who “did not contradict Christ and the precept of love of neighbor even in the face of death,” the bishops stated that “real societal progress” is measured by “the human moral condition rather than the gross domestic product.”
