Fewer problematic commencement speakers at Catholic colleges

May 27, 2013

Six Catholic colleges this year honored supporters of abortion and other actions at odds with Catholic teaching – down from 24 colleges in 2006, 14 in 2011, and 11 in 2012, according to the Cardinal Newman Society, which promotes the Catholic identity of Catholic institutions of higher education.

The six included Boston College, Santa Clara University, Santa Clara University’s School of Law, St. Edward’s University, the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, and the University of San Francisco School of Nursing and Health Professions.
