Prominent Legionary priest seeks release from vows to care for son

A prominent priest of the Legion of Christ who revealed last year that he had fathered a child is now seeking dispensation from the priesthood, saying that he wants to care for his child.

Father Thomas Williams, who commanded a wide audience as a television commentator, had taken a year of leave from ministry for prayer and penance after acknowledging his affair. As that year comes to an end, he has petitioned Pope Francis for release from his priestly vows.
