Pope's former valet, convicted in 'Vatileaks' scandal, offered post at Roman hospital

Paolo Gabriele, who was convicted in the “Vatileaks” scandal but pardoned by Pope Benedict XVI, has been offered a position at the Bambino Gesu hospital in Rome.
The Vatican tribunal that found Gabriele guilty of stealing confidential documents ruled that the Pope’s former butler should not be allowed to work at the Vatican again, but might be given non-sensitive work in an institution run by the Vatican. The hospital meets those criteria. Gabriele reportedly will be doing clerical work at the hospital, which specializes in pediatric care.
The Vatican declined to comment on reports of the job offer to Gabriele. In December, announcing the papal pardon, the Vatican press office said: “Since he cannot resume his previous occupation or continue to live in Vatican City, the Holy See, trusting in his sincere repentance, wishes to offer him the possibility of returning to a serene family life.”
