Wales: government seeks ‘presumed consent’ for organ donation

Lawmakers in Wales are poised to take up a proposal that would make “presumed consent” the standard for organ donation, thus eliminating the necessity for individuals to consent to becoming donors.

The “presumed consent” policy, if adopted, would allow doctors to remove organs without showing that the individual had volunteered to be an organ donor, and without permission from the donor’s family.
