New secretary for Congregation for Catholic Education

November 09, 2012

Pope Benedict XVI has promoted an Italian cleric to become secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education.

Msgr. Angelo Vincenzo Zani, who has been serving as undersecretary of the same dicastery, will become an archbishop as he assumes his new duties. He replaces Archbishop Jean Louis Brugues, who was named in June as the Vatican archivist and librarian.

The prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education is Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, who has served in that capacity since 1999.
