The Vatican issued a statement on May 11 condemning a bombing in Damascus that killed at least 55 people and wounded nearly 400.
The statement, issued by Father Federico Lombardi of the Vatican press office, pleaded with both the Syrian government and rebel groups to implement a UN peace plan. The statement repeated the message that Pope Benedict XVI had made on Easter Sunday, calling for “an immediate commitment to the path of respect, dialogue and reconciliation.”
