Sebelius among Georgetown University’s commencement speakers

Georgetown University has announced that Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius will be one of the 14 speakers at commencement ceremonies that will take place later this month. Sebelius will address the commencement ceremony of the Georgetown Public Policy Institute on May 18.
“Since taking office, she has led efforts to improve America’s health and enhance the delivery of human services to some of the nation’s most vulnerable populations, including young children, those with disabilities and the elderly,” the university stated in a press release. “As part of the historic Affordable Care Act, she is implementing reforms she says have ended many of the insurance industry’s most discriminatory practices and will help 34 million uninsured Americans get health coverage. She is also working with doctors, nurses, hospital leaders, employers and patients to implement policies aimed at slowing the growth of health care costs.”
“Sebelius served as governor of Kansas from 2003 until her cabinet appointment and was named one of America’s Top Five Governors by Time magazine,” the university added.
As Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Sebelius is responsible for the mandate that requires almost all health plans to provide coverage, without copayments of any kind, for contraception, women’s sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs.
In 2008, Archbishop Joseph Naumann revealed that he had asked Sebelius not to receive Holy Communion because of her support for legalized abortion.
In its 2004 document “Catholics in Political Life,” the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops stated that “the Catholic community and Catholic institutions should not honor those who act in defiance of our fundamental moral principles. They should not be given awards, honors or platforms which would suggest support for their actions.”

if this doesn't cause the local Bishop of where this university is located to issue a harsh repute of this then I am simply left to wonder where has the leadership of our Church gone...I mean this person has been the epicenter of the insane agenda of the most pro abortion president in US History, all the while having the unmitigated gall to call herelf a Catholic and where is the Jesuit leadership in all this, how can they allow their university president to extend such a scandalous invitation

Can anyone please enlighten me as to why we should take anything that the American bishops say seriously as they just can't seem to make reasonable "cause-effect" associations? This abominable practice is nothing new. "Catholic" universities have been twisted now not for months, nor year, but for DECADES. THEY (the Universities) are supposed to the source of culture. If "the springs" are polluted, and the bishops allow it and continue to allow it, then cleaning up the lake is an act of idiocy.

This is a clear challenge to the bishops' authority from the Georgetown cabal, the Jesuits of the far left. If they leave it unanswered, they will get a lot more of the same, and the leftists will use it as leverage against the Church.

Sadly to be expected from the school that covered up its crucifixes to accommodate the President's "sensitivities." Why should he think Catholic opinion matters when this is what Georgetown manifests on the subject to the public? Although I am a graduate of GU's lawschool, I will never make a donation or allow my children to attend. At least the Harvards and Yales of the world are honest about abandoning their religious roots; GU should have the decency to admit doing the same.

The examples of Abp. Naumann and Cardinal Wuerl speak volumes about today's Church leadership. One Archbishop's courage is worth a hundred Cardinals' politics when it comes to setting an example for the laity and clergy. What our leaders are speaks so loud we can not hear what they say!

Shameful beyond words...is there no canonical sanction that Cardinal Wuerl can employ against Georgetown? If ever there were an occasion to practice the work of mercy of admonishment of sinners, this is it.
