Pray for vocations, and listen for the call, Pope urges
April 30, 2012
After ordaining 9 new priests on April 29, Pope Benedict XVI asked his midday audience that to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and “that all young people may be attentive to the inner voice of God.”
The young men whom he had ordained to the priesthood in the morning were “no different from other young men,” the Pontiff said, except that they have been “profoundly touched by the beauty and love of God, and could not but respond with the whole of their lives.”
“The Lord always calls, but all too often we do not listen,” the Pope told the crowd in St. Peter’s Square, noting that people are distracted “by other more superficial voices.” He urged the faithful to pray “for every local community, that it may be like a watered garden in which all the seeds of vocation that God generously scatters may sprout and ripen.”
