Calling for a greater emphasis on palliative care, the bishops of Quebec have issued a statement decrying a commission’s recommendation that euthanasia be legalized in the province.
“Changing the words ’assisted suicide and euthanasia’ for ’medical aid to die’ doesn’t change the reality,” the bishops said in their statement. “We shall decide what relevant means of intervention to use to ensure the government takes into consideration forceful demands repeated throughout the commission’s process to respect the sanctity of life.”
