Interview with married couple who will write Good Friday meditations
March 19, 2012
Vatican Radio has interviewed Danilo and Annamaria Zanzucchi, the spouses whom Pope Benedict has asked to write the meditations for the Way of the Cross in the Colosseum on Good Friday. Danilo is 91, and Annamaria is 82; they are the parents of five and grandparents of 12.
“Our first reaction was one of surprise and I must also say a little fear in the face of this great mystery that is the suffering of Jesus, having to verbalize it seemed too difficult for us,” said Annamaria Zanzucchi. “At the same time, we are profoundly grateful to the Pope for choosing the theme of the family for something so profound and so strong. Expressing our participation in the redemptive suffering of Jesus is also a gift from God, because it gives us the opportunity to reflect on this reality.”
The Zanzucchis founded Focolare’s New Families Movement in 1967.
