Married couple chosen by Pope to write Good Friday meditations

March 15, 2012

Pope Benedict XVI has chosen an Italian married couple to write the meditations to be used at the Stations of the Cross on Good Friday in the Roman Coliseum.

Danilo and Anna Maria Zanzucchi, the founders of the New Families Movement—an offshoot of the Focolari movement—will organize the meditations around the theme of family life.

Pope Benedict has chosen a diverse group of people to write the meditations for the annual event. In 2011 he chose an Augustinian nun, Mother Maria Rita Piccione. The previous year it was Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the retired vicar of the Rome diocese; and in 2010 he chose Salesian Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati in India.
