Pakistani police official rapes Christian girl; colleagues decline to take action

While Pakistan’s government leaders observed International Women’s Day, a policeman in Punjab province raped a 14-year-old girl at gunpoint. Neither local police nor the hospital at which the girl was treated wanted to take action against her assailant. Only an investigation by an independent judge assured that the crime would not go entirely unpunished—although the rapist has not yet been arrested.
