USCCB donated over $9.3M to Church in Africa, Latin America
November 30, 2011
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has donated over $7 million to the Church in Latin America and $2.3 million to the Church in Africa in 2011, including recent grants of over $2.7 million to Latin America and $1.3 million to Africa.
The largest recent donations to Latin America and Caribbean institutions were granted to the Latin American Episcopal Conference (CELAM), earthquake relief in a Peruvian territorial prelature, and the reconstruction of Church buildings in Haiti.
The donations are funded by special collections. The collection for Latin America takes place on the fourth Sunday in January, while the collection for Africa is taken at the discretion of the diocesan bishop.
