Controversial Australian priest loses bid to postpone retirement again

A controversial Australian priest has evidently lost his battle to obtain a second delay of his retirement from parish duty.

Father Bob Maguire, who agreed in 2009 to step down in February 2012 at the age of 77, said that it was “a bit of a shock” to hear from Archbishop Denis Hart of Melbourne that he would be held to that commitment. Parishioners had mounted a public campaign to keep Father Maguire in active ministry.
