One hundred members of opposition parties have announced that they will boycott Pope Benedict’s speech to the German parliament.
“That is so small-minded that one doesn't know whether to laugh or to cry,” said Cardinal Joachim Meisner. “And the fact that they sit in parliament does not leave a positive mark on the noble representation of the German people.”

They will be missing their chance to hear their language spoken in exemplary fashion and probably the most intelligent and thought-provoking ideas they are likely to hear in a long time.

He's also a German national. You'd think that simply from the perspective of "local boy makes it big", they'd want to honor one of their own.
