China: police detain bishop, diocesan administrator

August 24, 2011

Police in the central Chinese city of Tianshui have detained diocesan administrator Father John Baptist Wang Ruohan, retired Bishop Casimir Wang Milu, and several other priests and lay leaders of the underground Church there. The priests are being forced to attend four hours of “study sessions” every day.

Clandestinely consecrated in 1981, Bishop Wang was sentenced to “reform through labor” from 1985 to 1993. He retired in 2003.
