Sentencing hearing begins for Canadian bishop in child-porn case
August 02, 2011
Canadian Bishop Raymond Lahey, who in May pleaded guilty to child-pornography charges, faces a sentencing hearing today.
During the 2-day hearing, an Ottawa court will hear a report from a psychiatrist about Lahey’s mental condition. The hearing, originally scheduled for June, has already been delayed for several weeks, and the 2nd session could again be delayed before the court imposes a final sentence. Bishop Lahey faces a minimum sentence of 1 year in prison.
