French lawmakers turn down embryonic stem-cell research

French lawmakers have rejected a bid to allow embryonic stem-cell research, in a vote that the Vatican newspaper characterized as a “positive turnaround.”
Rejecting the recommendations of a government commission, the legislators voted to retain a ban on embryonic stem-cell research. The vote followed the recommendations of the French bishops’ conference.
